Hand Me Down is an online secondhand clothing shop with the aim of selling curated collections of clothes, we wanted the visual style of the shop to be simple and elegant but with some fun elements. The initial stages involved creating some paired back logotypes with some experimentation with how to create hand images or downward arrows.
The final typeface, Map Roman Condensed, is bold and clear enough to stand out but serifs and thin stems + strokes bring the touch of class that we were looking for. The hand symbols are made by drawing around our hand and tracing them with a wide calligraphy pen and ink. Once I had some basic hand shapes I could then digitally draw some more complicated icons, trace them in ink and scan them back in.
The logo, bold contrasting colours and chunky icons are used across simple web and print formats. The illustration technique can easily be adapted to be used across all the different themed collections - for example a cowboy hat for the first drop - The Western.
